Director's Introduction

It is my great honor to serve as the Director of the Inter-American Defense College (IADC). Since its establishment in 1962, the IADC has served as a premiere postgraduate Defense College for the Americas. We consider the peace and security of the Western Hemisphere our primary objective.
The Inter-American Defense College prepares selected military officers, police officials, and civilians of the American nations for future senior leadership responsibilities in the Hemisphere. Our graduates include current and former presidents, ministers of defense, diplomats and general officers throughout the hemisphere. This eleven-month program of study provides comprehensive understanding of governmental systems, the structure and function of the Inter-American system, and an opportunity to study broad based security issues affecting the region and the world. During the program of study the college hosts four seminars focused on the following areas:

Threats to Western Hemisphere Security
Peace Operations
Negotiation and Conflict Resolution
Large Scale Emergency and Disaster Situations

Additionally, the IADC has academic agreements with other institutions of higher learning throughout the Western Hemisphere.  Through our academic agreements, the members of each class are afforded the opportunity to pursue a Master’s degree in conjunction with their studies at the college.

Only through cooperation and dialogue can the nations of the Hemisphere hope to reach their common goals of peace and security. The IADC has been contributing to that process since its creation.  Thank you for visiting our website.  Please contact us should you need any information.
